When one thinks of games that refer to role playing, some may think that one is referring to some sort of mature action between adults. Sadly for all those overly imaginative people out there that are reading this webpage, this is not so.
Role Playing Gaming (RPG) refers to the genre of video gaming that is rooted in video gaming consoles and to a varying degree, possesses the game mechanics of traditional role playing games.
Now one would ask the question: What is a traditional Role Playing Game? Well, to put simply a traditional role playing game is one at which an individual assumes a particular role in a game, by which he or she would have to perform some kind of action. For example, let us take the simple game of "tag". In tag, there is one person designated as the "tagger" and the others individuals, let us say 4, are the "taggees". The concept of the game of tag is that the tagger is to try and touch, or "tag" one of the other individuals in order for them to be the "tagger". In other words, in the game of tag, being a "tagger" is role, just as much as being a "taggee".
Today's RPGs are more video based than traditionally based. In that, I mean, instead of actually getting up and playing tag, one sits infront of a television screen and controls a character in a game of tag.
They also have become even more elaborate in terms of the different roles that you play. There are roles from being a demon hunter trying to rid the world of demons, to a short, red clad plumber trying to save the princess while taking on different enemies by stomping on them. Remember Super Mario from back in the day? Well, if you cannot, you are way too young to be reading this. No worries. Just kidding. But in essence Super Mario was a role playing game.
The basis of this website is to give one insight into what Role Playing Gaming is all about. Some may be confused as to what this genre (kind) of video game is. Nevertheless, I will do my best to explain some key concepts of RPGs, give a list of some games that are on the market which are fairly simple to follow and understand what those concepts mean.
